Untitled Lifeguards Musical

Music by Rae Covey

Book and Lyrics by Rae Covey and Lisa Mongillo

UNTITLED LIFEGUARDS MUSICAL is a darkly funny, tender coming-of-age musical set at a small public pool in suburban America.

Three newly certified 17-year-old lifeguards begin the summer convinced it’s supposed to matter — a last chance to become different, less flawed versions of themselves before college arrives. But as pre-season training ends, a strange rumor spreads through conspiratorial corners of the internet: the solar eclipse arriving in August may bring the end of the world. As the sky goes black, everything will just…stop.

Under the compounding pressure of monotonous pool scans and a looming potential apocalypse, the teens’ inner lives rise to the surface. As the days until the eclipse tick by, they try to strive for what they want, even when everything feels like it might be ending.

This show is about the ways we brace for disaster, and the secret hope that our lives mean something. The tone is offbeat and a little bizarre, blending surreal ritual with scorching monotony. Big feelings unfold alongside very dumb pool specifics.

UNTITLED LIFEGUARDS MUSICAL is for everyone living in a world that constantly feels like it’s ending.
